Lol just an example, if 40 is a new PR for you that is AWESOME. I've been lifting for a decade, so my examples will always be a little more on the heavier side.

Why is the 1st set lower reps than the 2nd set? I've always seen programming do the opposite, where you build up to heavier weight and do a smaller number of repetitions?

Did you read the article? He addresses this, the second higher rep range is for if you have lighter weights. For instance you are in a hotel and they only have up to 50 lb dumbbells, but your programming is for 75 lb dumbbells. In that case you would do more reps per set.

Could these workout be done as a superset or would it be best to do both sets of an exercise before moving on?
